The farm was founded by recovering an old farmhouse from 1832 in Costa Lorenzo di Torre Pellice, in the heart of the Waldensian Valleys, at an altitude of 750 m, surrounded by chestnut woods. It is precisely the production of chestnuts that characterizes the company, which cultivates organic since 1999; next to it, the production of small fruits (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, currants), mountain potatoes and vegetables in general. The presence of bees in the summer period guarantees good pollination of fruit plants and allows an excellent production of chestnut and lime tree honey.
In 2004, the hospitality business began with an independent accommodation consisting of kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms for a total of 6 beds.
From the summer of 2014, completing the renovation of the property fully respecting the characteristics of the pre-existing structures, that is, exposed wooden beams, slate roofing, local stone walls, the restaurant business is active.
Almost exclusively local products are used in the preparation of the food: meat from animals raised in the valley, local cheeses including the famous “saras del fèn”, salami and mustardela that marry admirably with the fruit and vegetables produced on the farm and with the spontaneous herbs of the area. The pasta is produced directly in our kitchen also using chestnut flour derived from fruits collected on the farm and processed in the valley.
The farm frequently hosts vegetarian or vegan guests and has always given its willingness to a careful cuisine for those with celiac disease.
The farmhouse can be reached by car (about 1.5 km from the Bertenga bridge) using via Costa Lorenzo, which is partly paved and partly a dirt road; on site there is a parking area reserved for guests. It is also possible to go up to Costa Lourens on foot with a walk of just over 30 ′ following the same road, therefore with a path accessible to all.
The structure is equipped with toilets suitable for the disabled; free wifi internet connection available.
Reservations are required.
Costa Lourens is located in the heart of two nature trails that enhance the surrounding area: the Ghiandaia, a ring that crosses the Inverso between Torre Pellice and Luserna San Giovanni and the “chestnut path”, which connects the Pellice on the orographic right , Bibiana and Villar Pellice. Upstream of the farmhouse, at an altitude between 800 and 950 meters, a “balcony path” has been recovered and marked, which crosses old pitches with dry stone walls which between 1700 and 1800 hosted numerous charcoal pits.
