Rostan Piervaldo Farm

The Rostan Piervaldo farm is located in an old farmhouse dating back to 1832 in the Costa Lorenzo area of Torre Pellice, in the heart of the Waldensian Valleys, at an altitude of 750 meters, surrounded by chestnut woods. It is precisely the production of chestnuts that characterizes the company, which has been certified organic since 1999 by Icea; next to it, it is also characterized by the production of small fruits (blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, currants), mountain potatoes and vegetables in general. The presence of bees in the summer period guarantees good pollination to fruit plants and allows an excellent production of chestnut and lime tree honey.

The company is part of the Terranova Agricultural Coop of Luserna San Giovanni which transforms fruit produced in the valley into jams and juices; the production of chestnuts (most represented varieties: Gioviasca, Marrone, Ruiana) is sold directly on the farm, conferred on the “Pellice Valley Chestnut Producers” association which since 2001, thanks to a recognizable brand, has enhanced local chestnuts.

The company’s small fruits are largely sold in restaurants and trattorias in the area and form the basis for the ice creams of the Bellocco ice cream parlor in Torre Pellice, an example of a short supply chain to enhance the products of the valley.

The company is also part of the Mountain Potato Producers Association of the Province of Turin.

The Rostan company has been present at the weekly Friday market in Torre Pellice since 1982.

In 2004, alongside the agricultural activity, hospitality began with an independent farmhouse accommodation consisting of kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms for a total of 6 beds.
Since the summer of 2014, completing the renovation of the building fully respecting the characteristics of the pre-existing structures, that is, exposed wooden beams, slate roofing, local stone walls, the restaurant business is also active using the company’s products and others almost exclusively from the Pellice valley.

The company can be reached by car (about 1.5 km from the Bertenga bridge) using Via Costa Lorenzo, which is partly paved, partly with a dirt road; on site there is a parking area reserved for guests.

It is also possible to go up to Costa Lourens on foot with a walk of just over 30’ following the same road, therefore with a path accessible to all.
Costa Lourens is located in the heart of two nature trails that enhance the surrounding area: the Ghiandaia, a ring that crosses the Inverse between Torre Pellice and Luserna San Giovanni and the “chestnut path”, which connects the Pellice on the orographic right , Bibiana and Villar Pellice. Upstream of the farmhouse, at an altitude between 800 and 950 meters, a “balcony path” has been recovered and marked, which crosses old pitches with dry stone walls which between 700 and 800 hosted numerous charcoal pits.
